HISTORY
unravelling
Part of the binding coming undone, unravelling from its pattern and dangling from the edge.
With time, things that are loved begin to show the effects of being loved. With every wash and stretch, materials lose their strength and eventually break. Sometimes these signs of love are seen as imperfections; signs that the object needs to be replaced.
threads
Broken threads from the sweater’s details, and lightly hanging.
paint
Small bits of paint that have become permanently bonded to the sweater.
But at other times, imperfections are seen as added characteristics that are enhancing
the object rather than taking away from it. After enough time, the story behind each
one becomes blurred, not knowing where it came from or how long it’s been there.
broken elastic
Eventual breaking of the thin elastic that runs along the bottom of the body and sleeves of the sweater, giving it that voluminous appearance.
